Hi everyone, recently I bought an Android phone and I was thinking to make cheap calls from my Google Nexus. So I was looking for some apps allow you to make SIP call on your Android. So here I have a round up of free SIP apps on Android.
First of all, to make free or cheap calls on your Android, a SIP address is required, which you can find many sip providers in this blog. I am using Goober. And a SIP client is also needed to run on your Android device. Below is the list I have collected and you can download them from Google Play.
1. LinPhone
Linphone is an open source internet SIP phone or Voice Over IP phone (VoIP) WIFI/3G, with video calls support for ARMv7 phones. It has many great features like Audio multicall and conferencing,SRTP media encryption,Address book integration and others. Installed on my Galaxy Nexus. Easy configuration and works fine. It took me a while to find the right Sip client but I think this it. Much better than CsipSimple in 2 important areas: Battery consumption and staying registered.
2. SIPdroid
Although SIPdroid is free app it’s supported well. And it has a very nice and simple interface. Works ok with my sip account, but call quality still not quite as good as voip by antisip. Contacts list does not list phone numbers, only names. Not tried the video yet.
3. Voxofon
I know that many readers are using Voxofon for its cheap voip call service. However, you may didn’t know that Voxofon is offering an app which allows you to configure your SIP address on your Android.
CSIPSimple is an OpenSource SIP Client work on Android. It supports Rewriting/filtering rules for integration with Android, Call recording,Fancy UI. And Many codecs are supported like HD codecs, optimized codecs. Grega said “I’ve tried a couple of other sip clients so far. I can honestly say that this one is the best one! It even supports sending sms. I strongly recommend it!”.
5. FriendCaller
I think most readers of this blog are familiar with FriendCaller. Friend is a very famous VoIP service providers including voip phone calls and mobile phone calls. Video calling service is also supported by FriendCaller. What’s more, FriendCall’s app also allow you to configure your other SIP address on this app. If you are happend using this app, just try its Android SIP service.
6. Nimbuzz
Nimbuzz offers cheap international calling service and SIP service. You can see a very simple and clean interface with Nimbuzz. The amazing thing is that they have more than 80 million users in the world.
7. 3CXPhone
3CXPhone is a free Android App which allows you to Free SIP phone to make VoIP calls via an IP PBX (3CX /Asterisk)or VoIP provider. 3CXPhone for Android is a free VoIP Softphone that works with SIP based IP PBXs such as 3CX or Asterisk and popular VoIP providers. 3CXPhone is not locked to a particular provider so you can switch easily. Interface is very nice and user friendly, but for some reasons the sound quality is not ver good with noices and delay but sipdroid is opposite. I can’t think of the root cause since i test both on the same network with Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
